Fun Goat Facts!

FAIR WEATHER LOVERS-Goats despise any type of precipitation! Snow, sleet, rain, dew, etc. and they will not venture out of their barn. We call them our "pampered princesses"!

DON'T FEED THEM TIN CANS-Goats are not the easiest keepers. They can overeat and get bloat. Landscape plants like azaleas and rhododendrons are lethal if ingested. Goats have four stomachs and need fresh hay, forage, water, and mineral supplements.

THEY ARE SMARTER THAN THEY LOOK! They know their names, can learn tricks and also how to open gate latches! Do not underestimate their intelligence.

 

Why Goat Milk Soap?

Other soap makers may tell you that putting goat milk in soap makes no difference in the finished product. The "1% Rule" states that you can add 1% goat milk (or powdered goat milk) to your batter and call it goat milk soap. 

Here on Thistlebrook Farm, our soaps are formulated with 100% raw, unpasteurized, full fat goat milk as a replacement for water! Is it more expensive and time consuming to make soap this way? Absolutely! But the difference you feel on your skin is worth it.

So, while some soaps may claim to be goat milk soaps, your skin will definitely feel the difference!

Meet the Herd!

They are the heart and soul of our farm; our herd of five Nigerian Dwarf does. The two oldest girls came from a homestead in southern Virginia and were bottle babies, so they're extremely friendly. Pictured far right, Rose (on her lookout) and Daisy. They were born Spring 2024. The other three, born Spring 2025, were not bottle fed, came from a large goat farm in Lexington, North Carolina. It's taken them a while to warm up to us, but they now eat out of our hands! Pictured left to right, meet Poppy, Buttercup, and Violet!
